1. When you sit down at the drums, what is the first thing you usually play - a groove/beat or solo/fills? Are you equally skilled in both areas, or is one of them much easier for you to deal with?
2. Have you taken any type of drum lessons before? Please let me know what you feel you got out of them AND what (if any) part of the experience you found lacking.
3. What is your age, and how long have you been playing?
4. What do you (and others) say are your strongest and weakest points on the drums?
5. Which books have you gone through, either on your own, or with lessons?
6. In terms of reading music, could you tell me a little bit about your ability? Do you know the basic notes and rests values? How interested are you in learning to become a stronger reader?
7. In the past, what kind of grade would you honestly give yourself as far as focusing on your musical goals? And have you usually achieved them? If not, what would you say has been your biggest obstacle in that regard, and is that something you might like help with?
8. On average, how many days a week do you usually practice, and in general for how long?
9. Who are a few of your favorite drummers and why?
10. Are there any styles in particular that you would like to focus on with these online lessons?... or any songs that you would like help with?
11. Do you have a double pedal, and are you very interested in learning double bass technique?
12. Please briefly describe your best vision of the "big picture" goal that you would eventually like to accomplish as a drummer in the next few months or years. If you have any rough idea of how often you might like to do these kinds of lessons (they are all individual lessons, so you can take as many or as few as you want, and change that at any time) then please go ahead and include that. Otherwise you could wait and let me know anytime in the future.
13. Please let me know your city and state (or country) so I can figure out what time zone we’re looking at.
